Animal Physiotherapists Animal Physiotherapy is a relatively new profession in Australia compared to other parts of the world. Animal Physiotherapists must be qualified Human Physiotherapists with Post-Graduate training in Animal Physiotherapy. They must also be members of the Animal Physiotherapy Group, a special interest group of the Australian Physiotherapy Association. They are trained to treat both small and large animals, including dogs horses and cats. |

The Animal Physiotherapy service is provided by ' Animal Physiotherapy Consultants'.

Michelle Monk is our Chief Physiotherapist. Michelle qualified as a human Physiotherapist with honors at LaTrobe University in Melbourne in 1996. She started treating animals in 2000, and has completed several post-graduate courses both here and overseas. She has a post graduate diploma in Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy and Dry Needling, and completed a Masters of Animal Studies (Animal Physiotherapy) in 2004. |

Michelle's research 'The effects of early postoperative physiotherapy following tibial plateau leveling osteotomy in dogs following cranial cruciate ligament deficiency' was published in the American Journal Of Veterinary Research in March 2006, 67(3):529-536.
Michelle is the also Secretary of the Animal Physiotherapy Group, and regularly lectures and conducts workshops on Animal Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy to Physiotherapists, Veterinarians, Veterinary Nurses and Dogs Clubs both in Australia and overseas. She is dedicated to research, with a special interest in hydrotherapy and strives to improve knowledge in the area of Animal Physiotherapy. She is author of the Hydrotherapy chapter in a textbook to be released in late 2006 by Blackwell Publishing, UK: ' Veterinary Physiotherapy: Physiotherapy assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of animals'.
Michelle will commence her PhD in 2007 working to develop a valid measure to assess the effectiveness of veterinary and physiotherapy interventions on small animal patients.

Lisa Watson is our other Animal Physiotherapist. Lisa completed her physiotherapy degree with honors at The University of West England, Bristol in 1995 and has worked in both private practice and public hospitals in London and Melbourne since graduating. She completed a Masters of Animal Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland and joined Dogs In Motion and Animal Physiotherapy Consultants in December 2004. |

| Lisa has a particular interest in biomechanics and the role of exercise in the treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal injury. Lisa also lectures to physiotherapists, veterinarians and veterinary nurses on the topic of animal physiotherapy, and is also dedicated to the growth of the profession through further research. |

Support Staff
Support staff including Veterinary Nurses and Physiotherapy Assistants are there to assist in the delivery of rehabilitation programs including hydrotherapy, and are only too happy to answer any questions you may have, and make your visit a pleasurable one.
Michelle and her team will personally administer and oversee the care and rehabilitation of each animal attending the centre to ensure optimum care. Your pet will be in good hands! |
